Mary Brewster Hazelton was an important member of the prestigious Guild of Boston Artists and known primarily for her portraits and intimate scenes of Boston society. Painted in 1919, this painting celebrates victory of World War I; Ally flags lining a bustling Boston street with the Massachusetts State House straight ahead and the Public Gardens to the left. For me it represents a painting that will clean beautifully, adding even more vibrancy to the scene, and one that documents an important time in our history depicted by one of our great women artists.
