What Ho!
What Ho!

Sir Peter Warren, painted by John Smibert in 1746, suffers the wretched bloom. He hangs prominently in the Portsmouth Athenaeum and after having undergone numerous restorations is sadly due for another. The varnish applied in the early 1980’s has for years been turning a whitish grey and it is now streaking across the figure and disfiguring the image. A fund raising campaign is underway and soon he will take journey to Shapleigh Maine where we will endeavor to make his stay revitalizing.
