The Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington is named for the Farmington born diva, Lillian Nordica, who sang at the Met with Caruso, among others. This full length portrait painted in 1914 by Samuel Burtis Baker (see blog entry from May, 2009) hangs in the well used auditorium and had suffered from a nasty tear to the canvas at eye level as it hangs. An eyesore and embarrassment to the university for too long, I am undertaking its repair and restoration so that Mme. Nordica can hang in full glory once again, overseeing musical and theatrical events for many more decades to come.
