“Bridge #112”, oil painting by Christopher Kressy, 1982, in its new location. The 5’ x 4’ painting was deaccessioned from its previous owner and became a part of the NH Arts Bank, a pool of artworks available to state agencies for display in public spaces. For many years the painting had hung in a NH state employee cafeteria and it showed. Along with food and beverage stains, scratches and dents, someone’s attempt to clean it had also left bleached out marks in the lower left. (see small photo at right)
The painting was originally purchased through an excellent program, “Percent for Art” which allocates a percentage of new building project construction costs to be put towards the purchase or commissioning of artworks to be displayed on site. A state grant funded the cleaning and restoration of this painting and it now hangs in the lobby of a newly renovated state office building.
