Tenting paint
Tenting paint
November 2, 2012
Moisture is the enemy of paintings. Exposure over time can cause the binders that hold the paint and ground layers to the canvas to lose their strength and as the canvas shrinks, the detached paint is forced upwards in a shape very much like a tent.
The objective is to pull all layers back together and to re-establish a bond that will hold the paint securely into place. The challenge is to slowly and gently reform the distorted layers so that the paint will not shatter or overlap onto itself as it is coaxed back into contact with the substrate.
